Backyard wedding pizza catering in Beaconsfield

On Sunday 1 November we catered Kirsty's wedding at home in Beaconsfield, in Melbourne's south-east. 130 guests, a marquee on the lawn, festoon lights in the trees, and our pizza truck parked right on the grass. Here's what wedding pizza catering in Melbourne looks like at a backyard party, and what to think about if you're planning your own.

The night

  • 130 guests
  • Pizza service 7 to 10 PM
  • Our pizza chefs cooked fresh in the wood-fired oven on the truck
  • Two roaming wait staff took pizzas to the guests so people could stay chatting and dancing
  • The truck sat under the festoon lights near the marquee

We came with our mobile pizza catering Melbourne Pizza Package.

What we cooked

  • Romana (ham and cheese)
  • Capricciosa
  • Calabrese 2.0, with mild salami only, as the couple asked
  • Margherita
  • Vegetarian
  • Nutella dessert pizza
  • 6 gluten-free pizzas

The first dance

Inside the marquee, the couple had their first dance on a timber dance floor under hundreds of fairy lights, with cold sparklers either side. Outside, we kept the pizzas coming.

Planning a backyard wedding? A few tips

  • Space for the truck: we need a spot close to the guests with room for our team to work.
  • Roaming staff or a pizza station: roaming suits a standing, mingling crowd. A station suits a sit-down crowd who come up to the truck.
  • Tell us about dietary needs early: gluten-free, vegetarian, no chilli. We sort it ahead so nobody misses out.
  • Think about timing: most couples start pizza after the ceremony and photos and finish with dessert pizza before the dancing really starts.
  • Lighting: at a night wedding, festoon lights near the truck look great in photos and help our team work.
